stress
this is a product of stress:
carbohydrates: involved in cellular recognition, energy storage, structural components of cells.
protein: may be strucural (collagen), or catalytic (enzymes), may be involved in movement, message signalling, internal defense and transport, or storage.
lipids: major components of cellular membranes, provide insulation, and is a concentrated source of energy
water: provides support and turgor, major component of cells, many substances dissolve in it, metabolic reactions occur in it.
biochemical lab tests:
-reducing sugars: benedict's test
reducing sugars reduce soluble blue copper sulphate ions into insoluble reddish-brown copper oxide.
-starch: iodine test
a polyiodide complex is formed with starch
-lipids: emulsion test
lipids are immiscible with water. by adding water to a lipid solution in ethanol, gives rise to the emulsion of tiny droplets of lipids that reflect light and gives a white, opalescent appearance
-protein: biuret test
this is a test for peptide bonds. in presence of dilute copper sulphate in alkaline solution, nitrogen atoms in the peptide chain will form a purple complex with copper (II) ions.
stress is like some reducing sugar, reducing me to a puddle of tears.
